The Island
The beautiful island of Paros is one of the larger islands of the Cyclades with about 120 km of coastline.
It is about halfway between Athens and Santorini; from Piraeus the island can be reached in about 3 hours by high-speed ferry.
But there is also an airport in the Southwest that is served many times a day in the summer months and during the rest of the year. The flight time from Athens is approximately 30 minutes.
Paros was already famous in ancient times for its gleaming white marble, which is still quarried today. The island's capital, Parikia, also has one of the largest ports in the Cyclades with the best shipping connections to other islands and the largest Greek port, Piraeus.
The island has a lot to offer its visitors in addition to the beautiful nature and the original Greek atmosphere. Whether you prefer a quiet, peaceful holiday or an active or educational one, or whether you just want to enjoy the sun or party, you can choose freely on Paros!
There are many beautiful sandy beaches on Paros for all tastes, from the hidden small sandy bay, framed by extraordinary rock formations, to the long, wide sandy beach with dunes in the background. In spring the island is green with its gentle, terraced hills, with numerous splashes of color from wild yellow daisies and red poppies.
The traditional small towns in the typical Cycladic style are very engaging: The whitewashed houses and narrow streets are pretty to look at with their cute balconies, arcades, flowers and fragrant herbs that grow up everywhere. You can get lost more than once in this jumble of small alleys and discover one postcard motif after the other. In addition, every few meters you come across cute churches and chapels or stumble across the archaeological excavation sites that are important for Greek history. There are also a large number of impressive monasteries spread over the entire island, which are very worth visiting!
There are also many small shops selling typical Greek souvenirs, jewelry and other nice things; but fortunately the island is not covered with it. Likewise, between these shops you will find bakeries, small junk shops, greengrocers, etc., which testify to everyday Greek life and let you feel the original Greek atmosphere.
